What we know

  • Democrats won control of both the Arizona House and Senate and retained the governor's office, their first trifecta in the state since 1966
  • Gov. Katie Hobbs, a Democrat, had vetoed more than 540 measures passed by the Republican-led Legislature in her first term
  • The Associated Press confirmed on Friday that both Arizona legislative chambers had flipped to Democratic control
  • Republicans had held the Arizona House for 60 years and the Senate since the early 1990s before this flip
  • Democrats took full control of both statehouse chambers and the governor's office in at least six states, including Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Wisconsin
  • Democrats also flipped the Texas House and lower chambers in Maine and North Carolina, and both chambers in New Hampshire

What we don’t know yet

  • The final count of flipped states and chambers could grow as results are still being tallied in additional states
  • Results remain pending in Alaska and Kansas for the governor's office count

Open questions

  • How will Gov. Hobbs and the new Democratic legislature address water issues and affordability as she has stated she wants to?
  • What specific actions will be taken regarding fraud and abuse in the state's school voucher program?
  • Will the final tally of flipped states grow once all results are confirmed?
  • What will happen with the pending governor's race results in Alaska and Kansas?
